Measure the Resistance on Wires 103 and 104 on the Operator Box

ClosedOverview/Background Information

If you want background information on this problem, go to How Power is Controlled.

ClosedWhat Steps Have I Already Taken?

You've determined that:

  • The machine doesn't come out of reset
  • The Machine Control Board doesn't have power
  • There is no power in the machine
  • With the Start button pushed, the machine doesn't have power
  • The Main Disconnect switch has input power
  • The Main Disconnect switch is operating properly
  • The transformer fuse has voltage
  • A Control Relocation Kit is installed
  • The Emergency Stop switch has continuity
  • The Start button doesn't have continuity

Follow the Troubleshooting Steps to determine the cause of the reset mode failure.

Before You Begin

If you haven't yet done so:

  1. On the front of the machine, locate the Operator Box.

  2. Power off the machine and the PathPilot® controller.

    1. Push in the Emergency Stop button on the operator box, which disables movement of the axes and the spindle.
    2. From the PathPilot® interface, click Exit.
    3. Turn the Main Disconnect switch to Off on the side of the electrical cabinet.
    4. Follow correct lockout/tagout procedures.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the cross-head screw on the operator box, and then remove the operator box cover.
  2. Locate the start switch.

  3. Locate wires 103 and 104.

  4. Gently pull wires 103 and 104 away from the start switch. If the wires are not properly installed, re-connect the wires.
  5. Set the multimeter to OHMS mode.

  6. With one finger, press and hold the start button on outside of the operator box.
  7. Use your other hand to measure the resistance between wires 103 and 104.

  8. Read the OHMS that displays. The value should be 0.0 to 0.5 OHMS.

Does a value of 0.0 to 0.5 OHMS display on the multimeter?
