Remove Wire From the Y-Axis Limit Switch Box

ClosedWhat Steps Have I Already Taken?

You've determined that:

  • The machine has a shorted limit switch circuit
  • The limit switch is correctly adjusted on the machine
  • The Machine Control Board is operating

Follow the Troubleshooting Steps to determine the cause of the shorted limit switch circuit.

Before You Begin

If you haven't yet done so:

  • Locate the limit switch box on the Y-axis limit switch.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to remove the access cover from the limit switch box.

    WARNING! Electrocution Hazard: When servicing the machine from inside the electrical cabinet, always use caution. Points in the electrical cabinet have high voltages that can electrocute or shock you. Even after you've powered off the machine, electronic devices in the electrical cabinet may retain dangerous electrical voltages. Only qualified electrical machinery technicians should perform maintenance or troubleshooting procedures inside the electrical cabinet while power is still on.

  2. Locate the two limit switch wires inside the Y-axis limit switch box.

  3. Remove one of the limit switch wires (it doesn't matter which one) and set it aside. Make sure that the wire does not touch any metal or other wires in the limit switch box.

  4. From the PathPilot® interface, on the Status tab, locate the limit switch lights.

  5. Make note if the Y Limit light is on or off.
  6. Put the wire back in the limit switch box.
  7. Put back the cover plate.

Is the Y Limit light on?

  • Yes: This means that the Y-Axis Limit Switch (PN 30461) is defective and must be replaced. You may attempt to clean the limit switch using compressed air and WD-40® (or similar) and repeat the troubleshooting steps; go to Machine Won't Reference.
  • No: This means that the limit switch cable may be damaged. Tormach Technical Support for guidance on how to proceed.
